Copyright Complaints (DMCA)
Last updated: August 3, 2026
Draft status: this page is a working draft prepared by the ReadVault team. It is pending review by qualified legal counsel and may change before launch.
ReadVault publishes original analyses about books, written in our own words; we do not reproduce the text of the books we cover. If you believe something on ReadVault nevertheless infringes your copyright, this page tells you exactly how to reach us and what happens next.
Our designated agent
Copyright notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. 512) should be sent to our designated agent:
- Name: [OPERATOR: registered DMCA agent name]
- Address: [OPERATOR: registered DMCA agent postal address]
- Email: [OPERATOR: registered DMCA agent email address]
The agent above is registered with the US Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory; [OPERATOR: registration is a pre-launch task, complete it and replace these placeholders before the first public user].
Filing a notice
For your notice to be effective under 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3), it must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (or a representative list if there are several).
- Identification of the material you claim is infringing and enough information for us to locate it (the URL of the ReadVault page is ideal).
- Your contact information: name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
Please note that under 17 U.S.C. 512(f), knowingly and materially misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages.
What happens after we receive a notice
Our takedown commitment:
- We acknowledge receipt within 2 business days.
- A complete notice is triaged by our designated content owner ([OPERATOR: triage owner role or name]), and where the claim is valid we act within 5 business days of receiving the complete notice.
- Acting means the title is pulled from the service entirely: it is unpublished and archived, and it disappears from every public surface, including browse, search, rails, and cached pages.
- If a notice is incomplete we will tell you what is missing rather than silently ignoring it.
Because our catalog is produced and curated by us (users do not post public content on ReadVault), a takedown decision is also an editorial review: where a concern is justified we revise our production checks so the issue cannot recur.
Counter-notice
If material you are responsible for was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may send our designated agent a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. 512(g)(3) containing:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the United States, for any judicial district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice.
On receiving a valid counter-notice we forward it to the original complainant. Unless they notify us within 14 business days that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity, we may restore the material no earlier than 10 business days after receiving the counter-notice.
Other concerns
For concerns that are not copyright claims (for example a factual error in an analysis), see the Disclaimer for how we handle corrections, or contact [OPERATOR: general contact email address].
