Terms of Service
Last updated: August 3, 2026
Draft status: this page is a working draft prepared by the ReadVault team. It is pending review by qualified legal counsel and may change before launch.
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of ReadVault. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. Please read them together with the Privacy policy, the Disclaimer, and the Copyright complaints page.
1. Who we are
ReadVault is operated by [OPERATOR: legal entity name], registered at [OPERATOR: registered address] (referred to below as "ReadVault", "we", or "us"). You can contact us at [OPERATOR: contact email address].
2. What ReadVault is
ReadVault publishes original analyses of nonfiction books: structured key insights written in our own voice, available as text and as audio narration. Each analysis is drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by a human editor before it is published. Analyses are independent works about books; they are not the books, extracts of the books, or replacements for reading them.
This is an independent analysis created by ReadVault. It is not affiliated with, authorized by, endorsed by, or sponsored by the author or publisher, and is not a substitute for the book.
Book titles and author names appear on the service as factual attribution only. Every title page links to where you can buy the original book, and we encourage you to.
3. Accounts and eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Signing up requires you to affirmatively accept these terms and to affirm your age; we record both acceptances with a timestamp on your account.
- Provide accurate registration information and keep your sign-in credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Accounts are personal. Do not share an account or resell access.
- We may suspend or disable an account that violates these terms; disabling an account revokes its active sessions.
4. The free plan
The free plan is a real plan: each day we open one full analysis (the daily pick) to everyone, and every title offers a free short analysis plus a preview of the full one. Free accounts also get a limited number of saved titles. We may adjust what the free plan includes; material reductions will be announced in advance.
5. Premium, the trial, and billing
Premium is a paid subscription that unlocks every full analysis, all audio narration, and unlimited saves, highlights, and notes. Current prices, the billing currency, and the billing periods (monthly and annual) are always shown in full on the pricing page before you commit to anything. Prices are stated as complete amounts; where consumption taxes apply they are noted at checkout.
- Free trial, no card required. We offer a free Premium trial that does not require a payment card. The trial length is stated when you start it. Because no card is on file, a trial never converts into a charge: when it ends without a purchase, your account simply returns to the free plan. One trial per account.
- Payment and renewal. Paid subscriptions are charged at the start of each billing period and renew automatically until canceled.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from your account page. Cancellation stops future renewals; your Premium access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and no further charges are made. We do not prorate or refund partial periods except where the law requires it.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails we may retry it and will notify you; if it remains unpaid the subscription ends and the account returns to the free plan.
- Withdrawal rights. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK you may have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services; how that right interacts with immediate access is governed by [OPERATOR: governing law and consumer-rights wording, counsel to confirm].
6. Acceptable use
- Do not copy, scrape, republish, or redistribute analyses or audio, in whole or in substantial part, or make them available to people without an entitled account.
- Do not circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, access controls, entitlement checks, or rate limits.
- Do not use automated agents to bulk-download content or to degrade the service for others.
- Do not use the service for anything unlawful.
7. Our content and your content
The analyses, audio narrations, and the ReadVault brand are our intellectual property or that of our licensors. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to read and listen for your own use; it does not transfer ownership.
Highlights and notes you create remain yours. You grant us the limited license needed to store them and show them back to you; we do not publish them.
8. Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deletion is immediate and irreversible: your personal data is anonymised (your display name is removed, your email address is replaced with a non-recoverable placeholder, and your quiz answers are cleared), your active sessions are revoked, and you can no longer sign in. Records we must keep for billing and audit purposes are retained without your personal details, as described in the Privacy policy.
9. Disclaimers and liability
Analyses are independent editorial works and may contain errors or omissions; they are not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice. See the Disclaimer for the full statement. The service is provided "as is" to the extent the law allows.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. The exact limitation and exclusion wording is subject to [OPERATOR: governing law, counsel to confirm].
10. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on ReadVault infringes your copyright, follow the process on the Copyright complaints page. We take complaints seriously and act on valid notices within the timelines stated there.
11. Changes to the service and these terms
We may change the service and these terms over time. For material changes to the terms we will give you reasonable advance notice (for example by email or an in-product notice); continuing to use the service after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the service and delete your account.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by [OPERATOR: governing law and jurisdiction], without limiting any mandatory consumer protections you enjoy in your country of residence. Disputes are resolved in the courts of [OPERATOR: venue], unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
